Interview with Kim Vithana
Kim vithana started off given us some information of her background getting into acting and her experience of acting went to rose bruford of performing arts and she started off as a stage manger and learning behind the scenes of acting not just stage work what I think is important for its good to have a broader knowledge about all aspect of theatre.
she then later done a degree.
Kim has done some tv work on a bbc regular series in which she learned various skills like absailing and learning how 2 fire a gun. being on tv meant she got to go to
- party's and Award shows.
However the flip side was when she wasn't on tv or in any theatre work not working effected her confidence.
Kim gave's us advice about auditions and how to handle it when its negative news. She said do not question on why they didn't ask u back or think was you good enough and done over analyze the situation you need to heave self discipline and no what yur job is and as An actor you are supose 2 create and interesting character that serves the text. Don't think about it and
Your going there to present what you do not to get the job.
You can only do so much and make sure you Connect with the character don't just read the lines.
Later on her talk we had 10 minutes to prepare our little scenes we got given on scripts to perform/audition to mr wrenisson and herself and I was looking forward to performing my scene with claudia and getting feedback on how we interpreted the text as usually I'm not the first to put my hand up but I was disappointed when not all groups got to perform as
Not just myself but others would of also loved the experience.

Current skills and experience
- I think I have very good voice projection in which I am able to vary my volume and tone of my ve to suit the situation and the character in which I feel I have great control which my projection as I know how to maintain a steady level of tone.
- I inhabit the characters characteristics by thinking of how the might walk / talk or behave on a daily bases. I annotate monologues and the scenes around my character to help give be a foundation of the characters background. I use my body and facial expressions to adapt to my character to the best of my ability. - as far as how I work in rehearsals I am able to apply my self a 100% in working with others and I contribute in lesson by given positive and constructive criticism and taking notes of important advice that the teachers or peers give me as I may use it or apply it in the future. - my physical / movement skills are still developing but using movement I can be out of my comfort zone slightly but I am the type of person who will have a try at everything and work on my skills and other movement base skills I lack. - outside the theatre environment I can be quite commercial and I love to watch other comedy theatre performance so in the comedy light I feel comfortable as I can be more my self. in some extent im emotionally blocked but emotional work is my strongest aspect of theatre as I can use my own experiences and feeling to exhale my emotions through theatre in a way you can capture my own feelings and the feelings of my developed character. - Shakespeare is a weakness and a positive as I haven't quite grasp the ability so speak Shakespearian but because I write poetry I can unravel the meaning behind some of the words and translate the language in standard English for me to understand more.
Areas to improve
- area I need to improve is my accents as im working on my northern accents as my mum from Manchester so its closer to home so I should be able to pick it up quicker.im starting accents classes at my Saturday performing arts classes so inorder to improve on my variation of accents.i can't sing but I'm willing to learn and in the passed I've played an instrument and participated in vocal courses so I'm musically educated.when working with text I annotate the piece to explore the character but I have bad articulation so when I'm reading the text I tend to mis pronounce words or stutter slightly which then stops me become a good sight reader fr I have to always look at the text carefully so I don't slip up.
| |
Do you have skills or experience in any of the following?
- I haven't gain much experience in all if the following but I have written and directed a play nearly to years ago at my church's Easter performance.it was a bout young people on the street who needed to find god and goodness and a way out from all this violence. Although I was only thirteen it felt good being in charge and writing and directing something positive.
-(marketing) last year and the year before I done a theatre summer course at the bac where I had to help promote the show and raise awareness for young people doing good also 2 years ago we done a performance called BRAVE 2 days after London riots so I handed out leaflets and talked to the public bout the youth and I raised the biggest amount of awareness and sold the ,oat a,punt of tickets.

Current skills and experience
I am a confident person who is able and comfortable to talk to members of the public as I have done aot of pubic speaking or social events. I write poetry allot and ive been privilege to work with Natalie Stewart.i like dancing and I do it on a Saturday but I'm still not as physically as I would like to be.i also go to italia conti Saturday school wet I also do dramas well as dance.by doing drama at a strict drama school helps me with my discipline its also beneficial as along side brit I'm working on other skills and building my confidence so it's helping me become a better performer for my theatre classes.
Skills to develop
I need to develop using my ideas and adjusting them in a creative way and Also pushing myself and being shy to share and develop my ideas.i need to be more confident within myself.

Other skills in the workplace
|
()
|
Current skills and examples
I feel I have good communication skills and I work well within a group. I like to be well prepared before my lessons and make sure I have a pen and not book and I can make my deadlines. I work well in a team and with others and I like to put myself n a group of people who I don't usually work with so I get the chance to work with different people and I feel the more variety of people I work with the more type of skills I can learn from others. I also like to make everyone feel included and I am a good listener so I look to listen to other people ideas and include my own so I and others feel apart of the group.
Areas to improve
I put allot of effort and detail in my work so I tend to spend to much time on the first section
so just before the deadline I have to rush the rest of the other section so I put my self under allot of stress.

what other jobs could you do in the future to support your theatre career?
- for me the best job to do alongside my career would be to do part time teaching assistants
or running workshops in which I have learnt exercises in previous classes. This way you get to still do theatre what I absolutely love and also its good on your cv and you gain more of a teaching experience.
- catering would be a good part time job to do ( catering companies like: - rhubarb food design
- off to work)
- telesales
what career do you want to do in the arts?
- as I have a great passion for theatre to be involved in the theatre industry would be amazing but I also have a great interest in poetry. I would love to be a stage actor and doing plays also small aspects of tv work but for me working on stage is home I feel closer and more involved with the audience and also as being a poet would be another career option for me theatre works hand in hand.
influential poets
- Daniel beaty
- Natalie stewart
how do I get to where I want to be?
- PERSERVERENCE AND DETERMINATION
also as I am not the most confident person its putting myself out there and taking its and being known and heard. Also just trying to go to as much auditions as possible. ( cushjombo sydnem - an ex brit student used the fact she loved writing and theatre to create her own piece of theatre) and that's a perfect example of how I can direct/write/perform my own piece as theatre as way to gain experience and knowledge of theatre.
as far as becoming a poet I need to continue writing and performing my work and ensuring im sending my work to other poets for advice and im also putting myself out there.
to succeed In life in general as well as theatre you need to be polite and nice also when in a theatre company you need to take advice and feedback but also ask question and give ideas to make sure your getting as much as possible out of your course.
